Penrith City Council’s upgrade of an exciting new café at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre (The Joan) is officially complete, with doors to café goers and theatre enthusiasts alike officially opened in March 2023. The new café will help support The Joan’s operations and our arts community by delivering a space that facilitates conversation while supporting additional commercial offerings to one of our most praised and popular creative hubs in Penrith.
The 19 sqm café was built in the atrium foyer, including 66 sqm of internal and external seating, to enliven the venue and provide all-day dining for the whole community to enjoy.
The café is the perfect place to grab a meal before a show or catch up over a drink at the bar to reflect after a performance. Not just for patrons of The Joan, the café is now a popular place to meet with friends or family to enjoy quality café style food as well as theatre favourites such as ice cream and popcorn.
The new amenity will deepen the audience’s engagement with the arts and broaden the patronage at The Joan.
Food and beverage operator
In 2021, Expressions of Interest for a professional food and beverage operator were opened to manage the new café at. In 2022, Council and The Joan assessed applications and announced the hospitality operator. Table at The Joan is now fully operational as of March 2023, serving delicious

What’s new at The Joan?
Penrith City Council has upgraded the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre (The Joan) by improving the amenity with a new café.
The 19 sqm café was built in the atrium foyer, including 66 sqm of internal and external seating, to enliven the venue and provide all-day dining for the whole community to enjoy.
The external seating will reinvigorate the Mondo, improving the venue’s connection to the adjacent Westfield Penrith.
The upgrade of The Joan plays a key role in Council’s vision to revitalise significant spaces and places in our city, while also enriching the experience for visitors to The Joan.

Monday to Friday 830am - 8pm
Saturday 830am – 4pm (subject to events)
Sundays closed (subject to events)
