Christmas waste and recycling services

Penrith City Council is providing additional waste services such as extra bin collections, recycling drop-offs and a real Christmas tree recycling day to assist households with any extra waste they may have during the festive period.

Additional kerbside collections

Council is providing two weeks of extra bin collections from Monday 25 December 2023 to Friday 5 January 2024, including public holidays. Residents can place all three bins at the kerbside for collection each week on their regular collection day. Council advises residents keep their bins out at the kerbside until collected. Collections may start earlier in the morning or run later into the evening to accommodate the extra services. Find out more at the Additional kerbside collections event page.

Recycling drop-off days

A recycling drop-off point for residents to easily dispose of household recyclables is available on weekdays at The Kingsway Playing Fields, Werrington from 3pm until 6pm from Monday 18 December – Friday 29 December 2023 (public holidays and weekends are excluded). 

Council will be accepting all normal household recyclables that can go in the yellow-lidded recycling bin, including glass bottles and jars, milk and juice cartons, paper and cardboard, plastic bottles and containers, and steel and aluminium cans. Find out more about the Recycling drop-offs at the event page.

Please note: Clean, white polystyrene* can be disposed of for free at Penrith Community Recycling Centre (CRC)

*Coloured or dirty polystyrene and small polystyrene fragments such as bean bag filling or foam packing peanuts will not be accepted.

Real Christmas tree drop-off day

Council is holding a real Christmas tree drop-off day on Saturday 6 January 2024 at The Kingsway Playing Fields, Werrington from 10am until 2pm where real Christmas trees can be dropped off to be sent for mulching. Find out more at the Christmas tree drop-off day event page.

Please note:All decorations must be removed prior to drop-off; this service is only available for REAL Christmas trees. Artificial trees will not be accepted. These can be stored for next year, donated, or if they are damaged and unable to be reused, can be collected in a free bulky waste collection.
