There are so many myths and mysteries surrounding the bat that we wanted to debunk a several of them with our fun Nepean Bat Night. Did you know bats can fly large distances? And that, in Australia, flying-foxes are the bats people are more familiar with because of their large size and tendency to roost in large camps close to people?

Bat fly-out
On the night, you’ll be able to enjoy a bat fly-out during the evening. From the balcony of the Nepean Rowing Club, you’ll be able to witness a regular nightly occurrence of bats taking to the night skies.

Guest speaker
We’ll have a guest speaker who is a PHD student, a WIRES volunteer and a Grey-headed Flying Fox (GHFF) expert talk to you about bats, their importance to the ecosystem, their lifestyle habits, how we can protect them and opportunities to get involved.

Trivia raffle
Love trivia? Our trivia is based off a bat talk where participants will be asked to list their answers on paper and hand it in. For every correct answer, you get a raffle ticket. The more correct answers = the more tickets in the draw. A name will be drawn to win a woven bat bowl.

Come dressed up in any bat-themed costume
Love dressing up? Come dressed in your best bat-themed costume for your chance to win a great prize. Every person dressed up gets a raffle ticket in the draw and win a great prize.

A bat drawing competition for kids
Kids can have fun and participate in a bat drawing competition where they can colour in a picture or bat mask for the chance to win one of three prizes (books Life Upside Down, Stellaluna and Bangu).

COVID-19 safe plan
A COVID-19 safe plan will be in place during the event to ensure the safety of participants, including a maximum number of registrations accepted.

About the fly-out
While fly-outs are a fairly reliable nightly occurrence, please note that as wild animals, we cannot guarantee the presence or fly-out of animals on the night. Bats and weather conditions will be monitored leading up to the event and registered attendees will be informed of any potential disruptions to a fly-out.
