Walk with me

With large-scale community events on hold this year, Council has adapted the annual ‘Walk Against Domestic Violence’ event to adhere to COVID safety measures and social distancing requirements.

Our new project, Walk With Me will be installed along Nepean River’s popular 6.4km bridge-to-bridge loop (river walk) and Coachman's Park, St Marys. Walk With Me will include a display of women’s silhouettes, along with personal stories of women experiencing domestic or family violence.

The stories have been carefully curated through our engagement with the Nepean Domestic Violence Network and the various services who support women and children as part of their day-to-day work. They depict real-life situations representing a range of women’s experiences to help to inform the reader on the reality of domestic and family violence and its devastating impacts.

The silhouettes will be on display from Wednesday 25 November to Thursday 10 December 2020 -coinciding with the global campaign, 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence.

Walk With Me ensures that Council can continue its work towards ending violence against women and their children by raising awareness amongst the local community on this important issue.
