This event will provide an opportunity to drop off unwanted clothing and textile items* for recycling with Textile Recyclers Australia (TRA) for free, helping to divert valuable resources from landfill.

This event will provide an opportunity to drop off unwanted clothing and textile items* for recycling with Textile Recyclers Australia (TRA) for free, helping to divert valuable resources from landfill.

Items accepted at the event include clothing, shoes, accessories (e.g., hats, belts & bags), and linens (e.g., sheets & towels)*.

Brand new items (with tags) will be donated to local charities, such as The Haven – Nepean Women’s Shelter and WestCare Community Services.

Embroidered items such as uniforms can be safely recycled.

Bring your unwanted items in a bag or box, loaded into the back of your boot, and our friendly team will help you unload them at the event.

*Please note: Only clean textile items will be accepted.

Before you drop-off - Quick sort at home

If your items are clean and still in good condition, please consider one of these options first. They get the most value out of your unwanted clothes and textiles.

  • Give it a second life at home. Pass it on to a friend, sell it online (Marketplace, Depop, Gumtree), or drop it at a local op-shop while they're open.
  • Donate new items with tags. The Haven – Nepean Women's Shelter and WestCare Community Services can put them straight into the hands of local families.
  • Mend it. Free help is available at Sew Social, St Marys Library, on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, 10am to 12pm.
  • Find a local repair or reuse business. See Council's Reuse & Repair Community Hub at penrith.city/reuseandrepair.

If the item is truly worn out, ripped, stained, holey or too tired to donate, that's what this event is for. It will be recycled by Textile Recyclers Australia instead of ending up in landfill.
