A Stitch in Time – Clothes Mending Workshops
Learn basic hand sewing skills or decorative textile mending techniques to extend the life of clothing, with the guidance of local artisans.
Australians throw away an average of 300,000+ tonnes of clothing waste annually, contributing to the degradation of our environment and taking up unnecessary landfill space.
Knowing how to repair textiles using basic hand-sewing & decorative mending techniques can extend the useable life of textiles, reduce the need and our reliance on the consumption of ‘new’ items, and improve environmental outcomes.
About the Workshops
Develop the skills to breathe new life into worn-out clothing. Learn how to replace missing buttons and repair visible tears, hems, and seams at one of our ‘basic mending’ workshops.
Or, why not get creative at our ‘decorative mending’ workshops, where you can learn visible mending techniques such as embroidery, Japanese Sashiko, and appliqué to repair clothes in ways that make them completely unique to you!
