StarBurst at St Marys Film Festival: Filmmaking workshop

Learn all about visual effects and create your own short film!

Guided by StarTimes professional filmmakers, this free workshop is a highly engaging, interactive, and practical day of learning for children aged 9-16.

Students will discover how to layer visual effects (FX) such as explosions, lasers, space travel, aliens, and more to create imaginative sequences. They will work in crews of 4-5 students using iPad apps, mics, and green screens. Students will collaborate and problem-solve in a filmmaking context as they take on various roles including director, actor, sound engineer, editor, and more. You will get a copy of your movie at the completion of the workshop.

You will explore;

  • Green Screen techniques
  • Layering and compositing
  • Framing, eye lines and performance
  • Storyboarding your sequence
  • Schedule to shoot
  • Filming
  • Editing and sound FX mixing

At the end of the workshop, students will view and critique their finished films.

Workshop participants will need to bring their own lunch and snacks. No nuts please.

Suited for ages 9-16. Parents/caregiver do not need to be present at this workshop.
