The Kingsway Sports Precinct in Werrington is on its way to becoming one of the highest quality multi-purpose sporting precincts in Penrith with the completion of the latest round of upgrades.

Almost $4.2 million is being invested in the facility as part of Council’s Sport and Recreation Strategy. This includes the recently completed $3.3 million Council funded Kingsway West sport fields and amenities building.

The project included the addition of six sporting fields for Touch Football and Oztag which are also adaptable for other sports. A cricket pitch, LED floodlighting, amenities building and upgrades to the car park were also delivered.

Penrith City Council General Manager, Warwick Winn, said it was important that public spaces evolved to support the needs of our growing community.

“The Kingsway Sports Precinct already attracts thousands of participants each week and these upgrades will provide even more sports and recreation opportunities for the community,” Mr Winn said.

The Kingsway North fields are undergoing an $800,000 upgrade funded by the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund, in association with the NSW Government through the Greater Cities Sports Facility Fund and Council. A new irrigation system has been installed and turf replacement on all 17 fields is underway.

New floodlighting has also been installed on two mini rugby league fields at the south site, funded by the Australian Government through the first phase of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

“It’s fantastic to have all levels of government working together to transform The Kingsway Sports Precinct for the benefit of the community. We thank both the Australian and NSW governments for their ongoing support,” Mr Winn said.

Federal Member for Lindsay, Melissa McIntosh, said investing in our local sporting facilities means increasing access to healthy, active living in the community.

"Installing better lighting on the rugby league fields means they are safer for players, and can be used longer into the evening, extending the fun for all involved," Ms McIntosh said.

"Particularly as our community opens up and we get back to the Aussie lifestyle we love, we want more kids out playing local sport. These upgrades to the irrigation, playing surface and lighting across The Kingsway Sports Precinct will have a massive impact on local families and sports clubs."

Upon completion, the facility will be comprised of 23 touch football and Oztag fields, four cricket pitches, LED floodlighting, irrigation and amenities for community users, schools and sports groups at a local, district and state level.
