Free clothing drop-off event on Saturday 10 May

Wednesday, 7 May 2025

Penrith City Council is inviting residents to declutter for a good cause at its second Clothing and Textiles Recycling Drop-off Event, on Saturday 10 May at The Kingsway Playing Fields, Werrington from 9am to 3:30pm.

This free community event provides a convenient and sustainable way to dispose of unwanted clothing and household textiles, helping to divert valuable materials from landfill and support the circular economy.

A wide range of items will be accepted including clean clothing, shoes, accessories and household linens such as towels and bedding (including doonas).

Penrith Mayor Todd Carney is encouraging the community to take part in the initiative, calling it “a great example of how Council is leading the way in innovative waste management.”

“Penrith City Council is committed to reducing our environmental impact while supporting residents to do the same,” Cr Carney said.

“If you have old clothes or unused textiles at home, give them a quick wash and bring them along. This event is an easy way to make a big difference – and it’s completely free.”

All collected items will be recycled by local social enterprise Textile Recyclers Australia (TRA). Materials will be sorted, cleaned, and transformed into new products such as tote bags, rugs, furniture stuffing and more.

New items with tags will be donated to local charities including The Haven – Nepean Women’s Shelter and WestCare Community Services, directly supporting vulnerable members of the community.

To ensure a safe and efficient process, residents are asked to:
• Pack items in the boot of their vehicle
• Remain in their car while Council’s waste team unloads
