Blue Mountains Honey

Blue Mountains Honey may have its roots (and a couple of hives) in Warimoo, but for most of its 38 year history, the business has been based in Penrith.

The business sources its glass jars and bottles from a local distributor and fills them with raw, unheat treated honey as well as jams, pickles and dressings.

They produce, package and sell their products at farmers markets and from The Honey Shed on Luddenham Road, although plans for the M12 mean the business will relocate.

Genevieve and Stephen Craig launched Blue Mountains Honey when their honey production exceeded demand from grateful family and friends.

Unable to find a premises, the couple approached the Penrith Business Enterprise Centre who suggested space in the Development Centre in Able Street.

After several more moves to accommodate growth, the business settled in Luddenham 9 years ago.

“We started with two hives in our back yard,” Mrs Craig said. “Now we have a couple of hundred hives in various locations, from the Mountains to near Kurrajong and the back of Warragamba.

“Previous droughts also led us to value add, with gourmet honeys and a range of jams and pickles made from local produce, to gain a premium price for our products.”
