Penrith home to Generation STEM

Penrith City Council and CSIRO are launching Generation STEM, an exciting new initiative aiming to attract, support, retain and train NSW students in STEM at school, into further education and into employment.

Major new developments in the Western Sydney region, including the Western Sydney International Airport together with supporting road and rail infrastructure developments, will create a wealth of economic growth opportunities across all industries. To pursue these opportunities, local industry will need greater access to a workforce with science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) skills.

The first program launched under Generation STEM is the STEM Community Partnerships Program, where students participate in STEM inquiry-based projects to address challenges faced by the local community and industries. The students are also connected with local STEM businesses and role models, providing them with valuable insight into local STEM pathways.

Business can get involved in the program by mentoring teachers, hosting site visits, delivering a masterclass or providing work experience opportunities. The time commitment is flexible and there is no cost to participate.

Businesses that participate will be able to partner with local schools to promote the importance of STEM skills and showcase the work of their business.

Interested businesses can attend a virtual information session to learn more about how they can help inspire local students to pursue a STEM career pathway and build the workforce of tomorrow.
