Airport construction reaches new milestone

The next phase of work has begun on the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport.
Major earthworks are underway which will prepare the currently hilly site for the construction of the terminal, runway, road and rail links. Western Sydney Airport Executive General Manager – Airport Infrastructure Jim Tragotsalos remarked “this transformational project marks its biggest milestone yet”.
“Major earthworks will see us moving up to 1 million cubic metres of earth a month, working across 67 percent of the site, which is the entire footprint of the first stage of the Airport.”
Initial earthworks began in September 2018 and included the realignment of 1.6km of Badgerys Creek Road. The airport, on Penrith’s doorstep, is due to open in 2026.
