The sky’s the limit for exporters

With an airport under construction on our border, opportunities for Penrith businesses to enter the export market are on the rise. In addition, ongoing government investment in rail and road infrastructure will make us one of the most connected cities in the region.

For fresh primary producers the future airport and its 36-hour global market place represents a raft of new opportunities. But this competitive advantage could extend to a whole range of products.

Penrith Council is proactive in this space and has established strong relationships with export aligned departments at both State and Federal levels, including Export Finance Australia, the Export Council of Australia, AusIndustry and RDA Sydney.

As the closest city centre to the future airport, Penrith is in a prime position to capture the Asian market. Importantly, Council has long standing relationships with cities in China, Japan and Korea and there are plenty of examples of local businesses who are already benefited from this fertile ground.

A wide range of Penrith Made products have long had a place on the world stage – including those that conjure up thoughts of “bringing coal to Newcastle”.

Electronics are a product we most often associate with Asian manufacturers, but products manufactured by GPC Electronics (see our feature story) have been sought after by a range of international clients, including in Asia, since the 1980s.

ASP Plastics is another long-time Penrith exporter of Asian pivoted goods, and along with Avida Motorhomes, RTC Foods, the Sun Masumune Sake Brewery and Nova Springwater, is just one on an extensive list of local businesses whose products make their way overseas.

Then there’s Ensitech (see our feature story), an Emu Plains company that has received accolades for its success in the export market.
