Mayor speaks with local businesses about Penrith’s future

Penrith Mayor Tricia Hitchen highlighted Penrith’s strong position to become Western Sydney’s most liveable region and Australia’s greenest, most connected and technologically advanced city in early August at the Penrith Chamber Networking Event held at the Penrith Civic Centre.

Penrith Mayor Tricia Hitchen addresses the Penrith Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Networking EventCr Hitchen spoke about the transformative work already happening across the city. “Our extensive program of city-shaping projects to revitalise our city centres is at a scale and scope that Penrith has never seen before, the progress of which will strengthen our position as the economic and employment hub of Western Sydney – making our city the ideal choice to invest in or to develop your business,” Cr Hitchen said.

The Western Sydney International Airport and Aerotropolis continue to be a major factor in driving investment and economic growth in the City, with Penrith the closest city centre to the airport. Penrith will also be one of the most connected cities, with the new Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport rail line open and operational from day one. This transformative piece of rail infrastructure will deliver on Council's long-held vision of a 30-minute city - one which enables the Penrith community to work close to home and remain connected to friends and family, recreation opportunities and first-class cultural experiences.

Council’s plans to focus investment on the eastern pocket of the LGA were also a point of discussion. “I think of St Marys and how that city will also be transformed in the coming years, so that when the planes arrive, visitors and business associates will land in a thriving, welcoming city centre where they can immerse themselves in a truly authentic urban experience amidst a spectacular natural landscape. St Marys will have great public places and a heart that will attract business investment and others looking to place themselves at the start of the next great urban centre,” Cr Hitchen said.

The August Penrith Chamber Networking event was well-attended with strong representation on the night from local businesses and key city partners including Penrith CBD Corporation, Rarekind, Cables Wake Park, NAB Business, Penrith Performing & Visual Arts and Good Earth Group.

Council will consult with stakeholders and seek important feedback from local operators in the coming months on their own pipeline of revitalisation projects that will elevate the livability of the region and see the Penrith and St Marys city centres thriving both day and night.
