Microsoft plans to call Penrith home

Microsoft is among the growing list of major organisations that are looking to Penrith for the future.

image of a silver microsoft logoThe global giant is looking to build a data centre in Kemps Creek, in Penrith’s east, with a capital investment value of over $300 million.

The state significant development is currently being assessed by the NSW Government. Documents supplied by the applicant indicate they expect the development to generate around 300 jobs during construction and 50 once operational.

“Data Centres are considered to be critical infrastructure, that not only provide employment-generating opportunities within the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) sector, but also support the operation of business to business and business to consumer services.”

“The Proposed Development would assist in providing new employment opportunities and promote further industry diversification (i.e. ICT sector)” the application states.

Meanwhile another global giant, Amazon, is preparing to commence operations in Penrith. The company will officially open its robotics fulfilment centre within the Oakdale West Industrial Estate later this year.
