First look at Nepean Redevelopment stage two

The second stage of the $1 billion redevelopment of Nepean Hospital has been revealed, with the release of a 3D fly-through animation.

With the stage one 14-storey hospital tower nearing completion, attention has turned to the second stage of the project.

Stage two will deliver a multi-storey building that adjoins the stage one tower. The stage two building will include a range of clinical services such as a new intensive care unit, in-centre renal dialysis unit, medical imaging and nuclear medicine, cardiology services and in-patient beds including paediatrics.

This will complement the facilities being delivered in stage one, which include a new emergency department, maternity and neonatal intensive care units, and operating theatres.
Nepean Redevelopment Clinical Lead, Nhi Nguyen, is excited about the progress.

“The tower delivered under Stage 1 of the Nepean Redevelopment is the first step towards achieving the campus master plan of separating inpatient and outpatient areas, and we are continuing to work on this approach for Stage 2.”

“We’ve also made education and training a key component of Stage 2 […]These facilities will be located at the front of Stage 2, which means they will be accessible to and benefit everyone who uses them.,” said Ms Nguyen.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said, “The $1 billion redevelopment and expansion of Nepean Hospital will transform healthcare in the region - bringing world-class health services much closer to home for the Penrith and Nepean Blue Mountains communities.”

The stage one hospital tower is on schedule to open in 2022. Further staff and community consultation is underway to finalise the detailed design of stage two, you can find further information at the Nepean Hospital Redevelopment website.

Adjacent to Nepean Hospital, Nepean Private Hospital is also undergoing a major expansion. Construction has commenced on the $30 million redevelopment that will deliver a new three storey facility to house additional operating theatres, specialist consulting suites, and more.
