Penrith City Council supports National Road Safety Week, 5-12 May

Monday, 6 May 2024

Penrith City Council, as a key supporter and promoter of this year’s National Road Safety Week, is encouraging residents to take a pledge to ‘Drive So That Others Survive!’

National Road Safety Week (5-12 May 2024) is an annual initiative led by the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group that aims to shine a light on the impact of road trauma and to advocate for measures to reduce accidents on our roads.

Between 2018-2022, there were 2,360 crashes recorded in the Penrith Local Government Area. More than 500 people were seriously injured in these accidents, and 27 lives were lost as a result.

Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said that by promoting responsible driving behaviours, increasing awareness about the consequences of reckless driving, and advocating for infrastructure improvements, we can work together to make our roads safer for everyone.

"Each year National Road Safety Week serves as a reminder that road safety is everyone's responsibility. By driving cautiously, respecting traffic laws, and looking out for one another, we can prevent unnecessary tragedies and ensure that every journey ends safely,” Cr Carney said.

"We’ll be sharing important information about road safety throughout National Road Safety Week, as part of our commitment to making our roads safer for everyone and reducing the number of deaths and injuries on our roads.

"Together, we can make a real difference and save lives on our roads. Let’s commit to being safer road users and working towards a future with zero road fatalities," Cr Carney added.

Join us in supporting National Road Safety Week by spreading awareness and pledging to drive safely for the sake of others. Let's Drive So Others Survive!
