What is Cumberland Plain bushland?

It is a grassy woodland vegetation community found predominantly in Western Sydney, that comprises an open tree canopy, a groundcover with grasses and herbs, usually with a sparse shrub layer.

With some of the most fertile country in the Sydney region, the Cumberland Plain has been a focus for agricultural production since European settlement.

Much of the native vegetation of the Cumberland Plain has thus been cleared and its biodiversity is now identified as among the most threatened in New South Wales. This makes it a priority for conservation.
