Birds of the Cumberland Plain

Be a citizen scientist and learn how to identify the birds you hear and see.

Join us for a morning amongst the birds! We’re going on a guided walk and talk led by Mark Fuller from Avianation and learning about the birds you hear and see at Crossman Reserve.

After bird watching, we’ll be weeding the reserve to help conserve the birds’ natural habitat and protect flora from invasive weeds.

What can I expect?

  • You'll be given a picture identification brochure which shows the common birds of western Sydney.
  • Binoculars will be available to borrow for the first 12 people.
  • You’ll be provided with tools, training, and guidance on how to weed. No experience is required!
  • Light refreshments, tea and coffee.

What do I need to wear and bring?

  • Wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt, sturdy closed-in shoes, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
  • Bring a bottle of water.
  • A camera to snap pictures of the birds!
  • Binoculars if you have some (but not necessary).

The event is open to everyone with and without Bushcare experience. Children must be supervised by an adult.

The event is free, but bookings are essential as spots are limited. Register for Birds of the Cumberland Plain
