Penrith Council is making it easier for you to learn more about caring for your four-legged friends.

The new Responsible Pet Ownership eLearning site offers courses on a range of topics including dogs and cats, registration requirements, and pets and families. New courses and topics will be added over time.

Penrith Mayor Cr John Thain said this website was a wonderful new tool to help make the community more pet-friendly.

"Our Animal Services department are incredibly dedicated to the wellbeing of animals, and passionate about educating owners on the best ways to care for their furry mates," Cr Thain said.

"They were successful in obtaining a $10,000 grant from the Office of Local Government to pioneer a site like this, which no other Council has done before.

"Penrith Council's staff have dedicated their time and expertise to create an easy and free way for the community to learn about animals, and how we can better include our four-legged residents into our broader community and City life," Cr Thain continued.

The new website is free to use, so anyone in the Penrith area, and beyond, can access it anytime, anywhere.

And every time you complete a course, you'll receive a personalised certificate, that even includes your Pet's name.

Council believes all pet owners have a responsibility to their pets, and also to our community to keep and house pets in a responsible and safe way.

This website is a fantastic way to stay up to date with those responsibilities, or prepare to become a pet owner for the first time, and learn how to be the best friend possible to your four-legged pals.
