Mayoral Column – Playtime across the City

It has been fantastic to see so many people getting outside these school holidays. As our City grows and changes, Penrith City Council knows the importance of access to well-designed open space to support the wellbeing of our community.

This includes safe, welcoming and fun spaces for our kids to explore and play, and Council is proud to maintain more than 150 playspaces in our community.

Last month, we opened a new playspace at Monfarville Reserve in St Marys, designed in collaboration with students from St Marys South Public School. It was delivered through our Penrith Mayoral Challenge, which teaches young people leadership, decision-making and budgeting skills as the vision for their local playspace comes to life. This nature-inspired playspace has trampolines, swings, balance play and a yarning circle.

In May, Council and the NSW Government unveiled a more accessible, inclusive and exciting playspace at Londonderry Park, with resurfaced tennis courts, new indigenous artwork, and an expanded playspace including a multi-level play tower.

Margaret Potter Reserve in St Marys and Myrtle Road Reserve in Claremont Meadows have also been revitalised.

These upgrades come with additional tree planting, enhanced shade and improved pathways to ensure everyone can access and enjoy the facilities. Find your nearest at penrith.city/playspaces.

We are always working towards our shared vision for Penrith and delivering infrastructure to meet the needs of our growing community, in line with our Community Strategic Plan and Sport and Recreation Strategy.

With a focus on encouraging active lifestyles, Council recently upgraded the amenities building at Woodriff Gardens Tennis Complex in Penrith, with the NSW Government, for sporting groups. There were also 10 tennis courts resurfaced - funded by Council and Tennis NSW.

Penrith is becoming more connected and walkable every day. We are thrilled to have just opened the Factory Road shared path at Regentville, creating more opportunities for people to safely walk, run and ride to Tench Reserve. Earlier this year, we repaired and reopened the lower pathway of the popular Great River Walk.
