  • Get the best care and education for your child

  • Great news for parents in the Penrith Local Government Area. All 26 of Council’s childcare centres have places available.

This means you can access affordable, quality childcare that is safe and inclusive for your child.

We offer care for children between the ages of 0-12, including long day care, preschool, out of school hours and occasional care.

Changes to child care subsidies as of 2 July 2018

    Child care subsidies are changing.

There are a number of important changes that families need to know about. We’ve provided a summary below, and the full child care package is available on the Federal Government’s New Child Care Package website.

    • There will now only be 1 Child Care Subsidy (replacing the current Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate).
    • The Child Care Subsidy will be paid directly to services.
    • Parents/ carers must complete the online child care subsidy assessment using your Centrelink online account through myGov.
    • To qualify for the new child care subsidy, you will be assessed on:
      • Combined family income – to determine the percentage of subsidy you are eligible for.
      • Satisfy the Federal Government’s ‘activity test’ – to determine how many hours of subsidised care you can access (maximum of 100 hours per fortnight).
      • The type of child care service – to determine the hourly rate cap.
    • Children must be 13 years or under and meet the immunisation requirements to be eligible.
    • Parents/ carers must meet the residency requirements to be eligible.
    • There is a ‘safety net’designed to provide for some children in vulnerable and disadvantaged situations, as well as those from regional and remote communities.
    • The annual cap is being changed, which will make child care more affordable for most working families.
    • If your centre charges above the hourly rate cap, your care will not be fully subsidised and you will have to pay the difference

We encourage parents and carers to visit the Government's child care package website  to find out more about your circumstances and how you will be affected, before 2 July.

All of Council’s 31 centres are under the cap, which means we can offer fully subsidised care. All our centres currently have fully subsidised places available.

    Why choose a Council centre?

All our staff are highly trained and qualified and all centres meet or exceed the National Quality Framework standards for early childhood education.

We also have competitive prices and most of our centres offer an all-inclusive fee. So there are no additional or hidden costs for you, with all nappies, blankets and food provided as part of the fee.

And because our centres are owned and run by Council, they’re not-for-profit, which means all we care about is providing the absolute best care and education for your child.

With 26 locations across the region, there is a centre convenient to your home or work.
