Why use this indicator?

Information on an organisation’s workforce indicates how its teams are structured and resourced to implement its vision and strategies. It also provides insight into an organisation’s business model, and can reflect job stability, the level of benefits the organisation offers, and the economic development and sustainability of the workforce.

This indicator will provide information on Council’s workforce.

What is the current situation?

  • 69.5% of Council's workforce are permanent.
  • 14.5% of Council's workforce are temporary.
  • 16% of Council's workforce are casual.
  • 30.5% are either temporary or casual.

Staff numbers have remained relatively stable. However almost one third of Council's workforce are in temporary or casual positions.

Council is committed to providing a flexible, family friendly work environment and as such provides a range of work conditions to suit individual needs. However, a thorough review of temporary employment is required.

What is the desired trend?

An increase in the stability of the workforce.

What does this mean for the Sustainability of Penrith Council?

An organisation which provides a range of opportunities and benefits for its staff as well as flexibility in terms of type and style of employment is more likely to attract and retain qualified, skilled and effective employees.
