Why use this indicator?When effectively monitored, indirect energy consumption from sources such as travel, commuting, purchasing materials and subcontracted products can be reduced. Tracking and reducing indirect energy use can improve the overall life cycle performance of products and services. This indicator will measure the energy saved through Council’s initiatives to reduce indirect energy consumption. What is the current situation?Council reported on this Indicator in 2006-2007 however it was incorrectly interpreted. Trend data for this Indicator is not yet available. Council intends to report on this Indicator in the future however due to the significant resources required to compile information we are unable to report on the 2007-2008 period. What is the desired trend?A reduction in the consumption of energy through conservation and efficiency improvements. What does this mean for the Sustainability of Penrith Council?Reducing Councils indirect energy consumption will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lessen the impacts on climate change and minimise reliance on non renewable resources.
