Why use this indicator? The amount and primary source of energy used indirectly through the purchase
of electricity, heat or steam, can indicate the organisations efforts to manage
their environmental impact and reduce its contribution to climate change.
This Indicator measures the energy required to produce and deliver purchased
electricity and other intermediate energy products that involve significant
energy consumption.
What is the current situation?
Council's energy consumption for 2007-2008 was a total of 16,360,555kWh.
Council has reduced its energy consumption by 151,091kWh.
Indirect Energy Consumption

Council will continue to implement opportunities to reduce its energy consumption in line with
commitments made in documents such as Carbon Neutral and Energy Savings Action Plan.
What is the desired trend?
A reduction in indirect energy consumption across all areas of operation.
What does this mean for the Sustainability of Penrith Council?
By purchasing energy from sustainable energy sources, Council can reduce its
indirect energy consumption which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions
and subsequent impacts on climate change.
