Why use this indicator?

The level of non-compliance is indicative of the ability of management to ensure operations conform to performance targets. Ensuring compliance can reduce financial risks including direct fines and costs of clean-up and impacts on reputation.

This indicator reports on Council's compliance with environmental laws and regulations.

What is the current situation?

Council ceased reporting against this indicator in 2010.

What is the desired trend?

Council does not receive any fines for non-compliance with environmental laws and regulations

What does this mean for the Sustainability of Penrith Council?

Council has a responsibility to ensure its operations are managed in such a way as to ensure there is no adverse impact on the environment. This is particularly important as Council has a regulatory role in monitoring the community and businesses to ensure their compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
