2006/2007 Data

Why use this indicator?

Spills of chemicals, oils and fuels can have significant negative impacts on the surrounding environment. A systematic approach to avoiding spills can be linked to an organisation’s compliance with regulations, financial risk of regulatory action, remediation costs and potential damage to reputation. This indicator, which identifies significant spills, demonstrates Council’s approach to compliance and risk management.

What is the current situation?

No spills were recorded in the 2007-2008 reporting period.

Council continues to maintain zero spill incidents.

Council maintains a high standard of diligence and implements a number of procedures to ensure the possibility of a spill is minimised.

What does this mean for the Sustainability of Penrith Council?

Spills can significantly affect water, soil, plants and animals. The elimination of spills or the implementation of appropriate controls if a spill occurs can improve the viability of the surrounding environment. The lack of spills reflects Councils commitment to the protection and management of the environment.
