Why use this indicator?

Greenhouse gas emissions are the main cause of climate change, and reducing those emissions can improve the overall life cycle performance of products and services.

This indicator identifies Council's initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and measures the reductions achieved.

What is the current situation?

Council abated 6221.2 tonnes of CO2-e from actions implemented. This builds on the 7157.9 tonnes of CO2-e abated during the previous reporting period.

Abatements have been achieved through projects which included:

  • Installation of energy efficiency lighting;
  • Installation of solar panels;
  • Changes to the settings and hours of operation of air conditioning systems;
  • Replacement of personal computers with more efficient models; and
  • The replacement of the air conditioning system at Ripples Leisure Centre.
