Penrith City gets Active during October
Everyone in the community is strongly encouraged to take the free sporting and recreational opportunities on offer during Penrith City Council’s Active Penrith month in October.
Penrith City Mayor Jim Aitken OAM said that you don’t have to have any particular ability as the month is about having fun doing healthy activity.
“Active Penrith Month is a new initiative to promote healthy lifestyles and a healthy Penrith City population,” Councillor Aitken said.
“Being active in every day life has great social and health benefits for communities as well as individuals. Active communities have greater cohesion and participation, we spend less on the health system and it helps us to live longer and healthier lives.
“Some of the activities during the month that you can try include a kayaking day at Penrith Whitewater Stadium, Council pools’ open days, St Clair Leisure Centre open days, free tennis at Council operated courts, and come and try days in tennis, BMX, softball, and rugby union to name a few.
“The popular annual Activate day at the Sydney International Regatta Centre , which is sponsored by Westlink M7 and the Penrith Star also returns as a highlight of Active Penrith Month. Activate has a large number of sports and activities that you can try in the one place.”
