The History of the City of Penrith

The City of Penrith is located on the Cumberland Plain, on the western fringe of Sydney. The local government area covers an area of 407 square kilometres. The Blue Mountains rise at the western border of the City area. The Great Western Highway, M4 Motorway and the Western Rail line cross the centre of the City on an East/West axis. There is a high density of population in the centre of the City with the areas to the north and south mostly used for agricultural purposes. The Penrith Local Government Area has two central business districts, Penrith and St Marys.
